ACUPUNCTURE & HERBAL MEDICINE

You are probably here right now because you finally want to experience more energy, less stress, and a greater sense of overall peace and balance in your life. It is likely the case that you are struggling with one or more chronic health problems and you are looking for help-ideally using natural solutions.
From back pain to headaches to joint pain, acupuncture has been known to be of excellent support. In fact, although acupuncture can heal the body in many ways most people associate acupuncture with pain relief. It is the most common reason for which people seek acupuncture.
Along with providing pain relief, acupuncture works to heal the root of what is causing your pain. Of course, lifestyle changes may be necessary and Samina will work with you and make recommendations to help improve these areas.
Depending on how long one has had the issue, will generally determine the length of time it will take to feel significantly better. Most often people will feel relief within the the first three sessions. However, in order to achieve the best results, treatment should be continued beyond that in order for the body to learn to heal and for you to be free of pain.
Samina is aware of the demands and needs of athletes. Sometimes support is needed in order to complete an upcoming marathon or compete in the game coming up. Acupuncture will help accomplish these goals. However, acupuncture is not geared at nor meant to be a band-aid. It works to alleviate symptoms while treating the root causes of health concerns.
Acupuncture supports all stages of pregnancy, from conception to birth. This is achieved by:
Balancing stress hormones
Regulating the menstrual cycle (influencing hormones related to pregnancy)
Increasing blood flow to the uterus (which allows for thickening of the uterine lining-increasing the chances of implantation)
IVF & IUI support:
Improve success rate of IVF/IUI
Reduce side effects of hormonal treatments
Reduce stress levels
During pregnancy acupuncture is used throughout the process. In the first trimester, treatments are geared at promoting full term births, easing nausea and vomiting, and decreasing fatigue.
After the first trimester, treatment is used on an as needed basis. Such as for pain, prolonged nausea and vomiting, and hot flashes. Towards the end of pregnancy, acupuncture may be used to treat depression (post as well), support breech presentation, and to induce labor.
As a part of acupuncture treatment, an herbal therapy may be prescribed to compliment the treatment. The combination of acupuncture and herbal therapy has been proven to be a perfect partnership to assist an individual on the road to optimal health.

Pain
"I initially sought treatment for trouble with my jaw and neck due to TMJ. After a few weeks of working with Samina, my jaw and neck felt great. My weekly acupuncture visits soon became something I looked forward to! After each session, I am very relaxed and take a nice nap. Within a few months of acupuncture, my medical doctor took me off my medication for high blood pressure (No, I hadn't changed anything else in my life!) and I couldn't believe it!!!! I would recommend Samina to anyone who is looking for acupuncture. Aside from being a great acupuncturist, she is kind, thoughtful, and truly wants her patients to feel their best. Thank you for everything, Samina!" -L.B. 28 Silver Spring, MD

Women's Health and Fertility
"In the midst of a hectic attempt for work and life balance, my visits to Pin Point Therapy were both grounding and healing. I received acupuncture care focused on fertility and later to promote a healthy pregnancy, and ultimately was blessed with a happy, healthy baby girl. Thank you Samina!" -C.S. 35 Washington, DC
"Samina is hands down the best acupuncturist I have ever received treatment from. As a Chinese medicine practitioner myself, I put a lot of stock into the process of approaching each individual with the utmost care, focus, and attention to detail in terms of developing a treatment plan. Samina hits the mark on all of these points, and has been both an inspiration and a healing force for me during the time I worked with her. I sought out treatment from Samina while I was pregnant with my son, believing that acupuncture would help prepare my body on all levels for my first birth, as well as help me cope with depression and emotional instability during my first and the beginning of my second trimesters. I feel as though I achieved a much more serene outlook and feeling of balance in my body in working with Samina, and attribute my incredibly quick first labor to all of the acupuncture I receive. I unfortunately no longer live in the DC area, and have since worked with a number of other acupuncturists. Whereas most of the acupuncturists I have worked with since tend to conduct a short intake and put needles into the same combinations of acupoints every time, I miss Samina's diligence in terms of assessing the pulses before and after treatment, and evaluating my tongue every time I saw her. These are important benchmarks that reflect change in the body, whether in a positive or negative direction, that should be taken into consideration every time a practitioner treats a patient. Chinese medicine is a dynamic medicine that treats dynamic individuals, and it is unfortunate that very few practitioners seem willing to really dial in on the small changes and recalibrate their approach with an individual accordingly time by time. Samina does this, and has mastered this, and because of her ability to work at this level, this makes her an exceptional Chinese medicine practitioner. On top of that, she is an incredibly grounded person and has a very compassionate disposition that lends to feeling at ease in her presence as well as sharing relevant personal information - of which both elements are important to facilitating the healing process." -C.C. 30

"Dear Samina, I have had four sessions, with a fifth coming up this Friday, and I knew from the start with the questions you were asking that you knew your "stuff." I feel calmer and wake up in the morning with more energy. Most importantly, I am back at the club exercising 3 - 4 times a week. As an aside, I am not craving sweets or chocolate, and I have not had any headaches in over a week. You are truly an angel with a needle" -R.S. Silver Spring, MD

Both perspectives have a common goal that is to bring a person to a place of well-being however, the path to get there has several differences. Acupuncture is a wholistic medical system, meaning it takes into account all the factors that are contributing to a symptom in order to find the root cause that needs to be addressed. Whereas western medicine focuses on immediate relief of a symptom, lab values, & emergency care. Both perspectives when used correctly are brilliant ways to get healthy.
Avoid excessive intake of caffeine & intense physical exercise before & after treatment. After treatment your experience may be enhanced by incorporating rest and relaxation into your day.
Absolutely not. Many people choose acupuncture and continue with treatment to achieve increased effectiveness, health, & joy in life. Acupuncture is also an effective way to stay healthy throughout your life.
